SQU PRODUCTIONS PTY Ltd is a Black Female-owned, Production company that creates innovative, creative, and educational content for Arts & Culture, and Film & Television Projects. Our services are tailormade to suit the needs of diverse organizations, communities and broadcasters we serve.

The company has two divisions:  Arts & Culture and the Film & television division.

The Arts & Culture Division is headed by Disemelo Makhanda who is a skilled and experienced dance instructor and choreographer. Having trained under famed dancer and choreographer Nomsa Manaka at the Soyikwa Institute of African Theatre, she has been in the industry since a tender age. She later obtained a Diploma in Musical Theatre and a B Tech Dance Degree from Tshwane University of Technology. Disemelo also studied Anthropology of Dance under well-known dance pioneer Sylvia ‘Magogo’ Glasser at Moving into Dance Mophatong. She had worked as a Choreographer, Arts Administrator and assistant Director to Suzette Le Sueur at the Dance Factory. The Arts and Culture division oversees our project Dance Expressionz, which offers Contemporary, Tswana and Zulu Dance classes weekly and school holidays workshop programmes where we collaborate with certified dance facilitators and dance practitioners Siphiwe Phiri, and Kenny Rakotsoane and Themba Tshabalala.

The Film and Television Division is headed by Doctor Khasu, a renowned Creative Producer and Scriptwriter who has been in the Television and Arts industry with a few international and local projects. She studied Drama at the National School of the Arts (NSA) and received a scholarship to study Film and Drama at California Polytechnic State University in San Louis Obispo, California. She spent two semesters of her studies at the University of Nebraska, USA. She was on Sediba a scriptwriting programme facilitated by the NFVF, Women of the Sun and the Robert McKee seminar ‘Story’. She trains and mentors young writers for stage plays and television. Some of the projects Doctor Khasu created under Squ Productions are Regina Mundi -Queen of the Struggle Documentary, and Onse Kasi for SABC 2.
